ABOUT US

Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI) was established in 2006 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah, the late Amir of the State of Kuwait, and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) to address the rising prevalence of diabetes in Kuwait.

According to World Health Organization estimates, Kuwait is ranked amongst the top countries in the world in obesity and subsequently in diabetes prevalence. Since its inauguration in 2006, Dasman Diabetes Institute has been striving to address the diabetes epidemic in Kuwait through advanced diabetes research, integrated prevention, training, and education.

The Institute’s mission is to prevent, control and mitigate the impact of diabetes and related conditions in Kuwait, through effective programs of research, education, training and health promotion, thereby improve the quality of life of the population.

The vision of the Institute is to be the leading diabetes institute in the Middle East and North African region and to be recognized internationally as an Institute of higher standards. The Institute plans its strategies focusing on this vision.

Medical Sector

The Medical Sector at Dasman Diabetes Institute uses a multi-faceted approach to deliver the best medical care and research outcomes by using unique and innovative methods. The Medical Sector tackles all aspects of research, training, education and health promotion to achieve DDI’s mission.

Within the Medical Sector is the Education and Training Unit, which is responsible for developing frameworks for training, development, and delivery of awareness-raising programs aimed towards patients, caregivers, health care professionals, and the public. The online courses offered will assist in our efforts to offer education and training to reach a wider audience which in turn will feedback into the community and healthcare.

Education and Training Unit

The Education and Training Unit (E&T) focus on many areas which are delivery of educational services to people with diabetes, delivery of educational programs and workshops for healthcare professionals, and delivery of diabetes awareness and prevention programs for the community to reduce the risk of developing obesity and diabetes.

As part of its strategies, the E&T has developed this education platform to provide an array of online courses aimed towards healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes to enhance their knowledge and skills.
